Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker continues in southern Mission Hills

Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker continues in southern Mission Hills

Hi, All,

I refound this bird late this morning in its favorite spot.  It’s visible from the end of a city trail, but as Nick Thorpe mentioned, you do walk through a private neighborhood to get to it.  Park where the concrete pavement ends, and walk in where the blacktop begins, going under the suspension bridge (you might be able to approach from the west end of the bridge on a faint use trail starting on the south side).  Your best vantage point is looking towards the back of 3212 Front Street -where there’s a large pepper tree it likes – from the end of the trail.  You can pick your way over a couple of fallen eucs to get a clear view of the tree, but I wouldn’t go any further than the last one.  Beyond that is a) people’s yards, and b) a nesting Anna’s Hummingbird about ten feet from there.
