Warbler Wonderland at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park

Warbler Wonderland at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
By – 2:56 pm
We enjoyed a long weekend at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park with great birding along the Stonewall Mine Trail on Sunday with the San Diego Audubon group and a wonderful morning along the eastern end of the Azalea Glen Loop Trail to the Paso Picacho Loop Trail today (4/18). The trail begins in a meadow with pine trees (hermit warbler, oak titmouse, pygmy nuthatch, wild turkey) before entering an area with tall shrubs that grew up after the fire. This section was very birdy with six warblers (yellow-rumped, orange-crowned, Wilson’s, Nashville, black-throated gray, Townsend’s), singing black-headed grosbeaks, Bullock’s oriole, Townsend’s solitaire, and calling mountain quail). No Bonaparte’s gulls on Cuyamaca Lake.Betsy Miller VixieOlivenhain
