Virginia’s Warbler – Solana Highlands School/Park

8:45 am

There was a young Virginia’s Warbler at Solana Highlands Elementary (Del Mar/Carmel Valley) this morning (Sep. 6).  The bird was with a small group comprised of one each of Wilson’s, Yellow, and Orange-crowned Warblers.  It was right up against the asphalt school playground on the south side of ballfields in a row of tipus.

Given the close proximity to the elementary school, with school in session, it will be tough to chase (I was asked to leave when school started at 7:30 and playground gates were locked) until school is out later today.

At the risk of stating the obvious, under no circumstances would I recommend that anyone go and start pointing binoculars and cameras in the direction of the school while kids are there. Until school is out later today, the best place to hope for it would be the tipus that are publicly accessible along the north sidewalk and northeast corner of the ballfield.
