Vermillion Flycatcher at Lake Hodges
Stacy Cline, the environment engineer at Lake Hodges texted me at12:30 today saying she saw a Vermillion Flycatcher. I ran down and spotted it too. There may have been a female with the stunning male – or it could have been a Say's Phoebe. I have pictures so I will have someone verify for me. At the gate off Lake Road (north of the lake) across from the old bait shop, walk in. Go past the first boat ramp road with the three yellow posts. Follow the metal guard rail until it ends. If you walk a little further you'll see a diagonal yellow sign on the other side of the road facing the other direction with a curvey black arrow. There are two white poles sticking out of the ground and low cut off telephone poles in front of that sign. The birds were flitting around and landing on the poles and the stumps. It was quite windy from the Santa Ana but they stayed in the same place for a while.
