TRV 7 species of gulls (incl. Lesser Black-backed)

Thursday morning there is plenty of water flowing down the Tijuana River along Dairy Mart Road near the model airplane club and there is a major lake on the sod farm. Should last a fair number of days. Also a good number of gulls: some 800 birds comprising 7 species, including a good total of 500 Ring-billeds and just one Bonaparte’s and one Herring, one first-year “Thayer’s,” and one adult Lesser Black-backed. Not sure if this is a continuing or new Lesser. Sifting through these birds is not for the gull faint-of-heart, a scope is essential, and the birds fly around a bunch and keep changing locations. But the more I kept looking, the more species I kept finding.
In other news, a White-throated Sparrow continues along the north edge of Point Loma Nazarene University, the “Eurasian” Green-winged Teal continues at J Street, and the Lewis’s Woodpecker continues next to the free pedestrian entrance to Santee Lakes.
