Tricolored Heron at Mouth of San Luis Rey River
I observed an immature Tricolored Heron at the mouth of the San Luis Rey River this morning from 1000-1010. With
a slow approach the bird is rather confiding. This is my first record of this species at this location. eBird shows no other
records in Oceanside.
Swallows and swifts were moving through Ocenaside earlier in the morning. Forty individual swallows of four species were
resting/foraging on the ground in the sandy area between the "lagoon" and the ocean.
A singing Bell's Vireo was belting out its strange song along the San Luis Rey River west of Foussat. I don't usually
hear them this late.
