those pesky White-throated Sparrows, Summer Tanagers, and Nashville Warblers

Yesterday, 13 Dec, I had a Tropical Kingbird in the general area of Dairy Mart Rd. X Beyer Blvd. in San Ysidro, which is 9/10 of a mile north of the main Dairy Mart pond–so whether this is a new bird or a northward wandering bird known from the pond area is uncertain. Continuing Bullock’s Oriole in Montgomery Waller Park, a Western Tanager in Sunnyslope Park, and a Nashville Warbler in Nestor Park. Continuing flock of 17 Gr. White-fronted Geese in Nestor/TRV. Today, 14 Dec, I had 2 separate Nashville Warblers in the Carlsbad area, where also a Summer Tanager at Camino Vida Roble X Yarrow, and a male “Prairie” Merlin also in Carlsbad.
So far in December I have tallied, county-wide, some 22 White-throated Sparrows, 23 Summer Tanagers, and 8 Nashville Warblers. But, in contrast to last year when South County seemed to be awash in Vermilion Flycatchers, this month I’ve seen only three in this area. And also in the “scarce bu regular category,” Black-thr Gray, Yellow, and Wilson’s Warblers seem especially scarce compared to normal.
