The Short-tailed Albatross chase 1-4-2022
By – 10:35 am
I have had about 32 people contact me so far for the Short-tailed Albatross chase tomorrow. If you have received a return note saying you’re onboard, you are confirmed.Again remember the primary purpose of the trip is to get out into the area where the Short-tailed Albatross was seen on Saturday. That means we will likely go through the common and expected species without stopping until we get into that search area.We depart from Seaforth Sportfishing Landing, in Mission Bay at 7 a.m. and return by 1 p.m.We are on the 80ft. boat Legacy ( which is set up in a tour style configuration ).Please be at the landing between 6- and 6-30 a.m. Do not check into the office. I have chartered the boat and will have paid them from my funds before the trip. In turn I will collect $80 from each of you.If the money collected exceeds the charter price, that extra money will go to San Diego Field Ornithologists. So the check in location will be on the patio area between the Seaforth office and the water. You will need to do two things. #1 to pay in cash ( Please exact change would be helpful ), or check  written to me. I can not take credit cards so stop at an ATM beforehand if you need to. Just a quick word on the price, I’ve kept the price low as I could to make this trip affordable for everyone, and I know last minute things can happen, but if you’ve signed on I need you to pony up even if you are a not go at dawn tomorrow. Enough said! #2 sign in on the manifest. We will board at 6;45. So we need to move right along.Seaforth has plenty of free parking in front of the Landing and on the street. Please be advised vehicles parked in the lots adjacent to the east and west of the sportfishing landing  may be towed !The boat has a small snack bar with limited drinks and snack type food items. You may wish to bring a sandwich or like. The Legacy has plenty of seating . Please stow your gear in the aft portion of the lower deck interior. There are three heads ( restrooms ).Please do not wear your backpack once onboard. The current weather and seas forecast ;  winds variable less than 10kts, becoming NW 10kts  in the afternoon. Wind waves 2 ft. or less. Swell 2-3 ft. at 6 seconds.  ( a check of the West Mission Bay Buoy which is about  7 n.m. offshore, at 8:30  a.m. this morning shows a 2.0 ft. wave on an average 6.6 seconds. the dominant period at 14 seconds ) Pretty good conditions but there will be motion.Lastly, the covid admonishment, I would bring a mask as requirements can change.  Then if you are sick, or show symptoms, stay away. Dave PoveyDulzura
