Tanager, Kate Sessions Park
There is a reasonable candidate for a Scarlet Tanager in Kate Sessions Park today (Friday 11/09) but I could be wrong & maybe it is a Summer Tanager.
Definitely a tanager, in winter plumage. Yellow throat, belly, under tail. Olive-greenish above. Roundish head. Bill that I judged to be not large enough for a Summer. No wing bars. Slightly darker wings than back. I thought the bird was smaller than a Summer Tanager would be.
I observed it for about twenty minutes from the bench about 30 feet west of the tree but I never got a super great look at it as it was moving around rapidly within the tree branches and never perched in good sunlight. Sorry, I didn't have a camera.
In a Carrotwood Tree which is along the sidewalk just beyond the circle with the flagpole (which is just past the bathrooms). There is a memorial plaque at the base of the tree… In Memory of Winifred Blanchard. (I may have her last name wrong – I should have written it down).
I was there from 10:00 to 10:20
