southern La Jolla Orchard Oriole and Summer Tanager
Tuesday morning, soon after dawn, in southern La Jolla at Via del Norte Park there was a female-type Orchard Oriole with a young male Bullocks Oriole as well as a young male Summer Tanager. All three birds were in the pink flowered eucalyptus trees in this small park, which is immediately north of the La Jolla United Methodist Church. It has produced multiple tanagers over the past several winters. Also numbers of Swinhoes White-eyes in these trees, which is a good opportunity to mention that white-eyes really, really like pink-flowered eucalyptus trees at this time of year.
Walking a couple nicer La Jolla neighborhoods also this morning was disturbingly birdless.
