Silver Strand gulls

Silver Strand gulls
By – 12:34 pm
A group of ~50 gulls along Silver Strand SB this morning included several ‘white-winged’ and hybrid gulls. The birds were gathered near the shore about half a mile north of the Camp Surf jetty. The group included 5 first-winter Glaucous-winged Gulls, 2 first-winter Iceland Gulls, and at least 3 hybrid birds that I wouldn’t put a name on without good photos, but likely including Glaucous-winged X Western and Glaucous-winged X Herring. One female Black Scoter was also offshore just a little south of the gulls, but still quite around a quarter mile north of the jetty, so possibly a different bird than the one Paul Marvin reported early this morning. — Nicholas A.
