SDFO pelagic trip Jan 1st: Manx Shearwater, Ancient Murrelet

The annual half-day January 1st SDFO pelagic trip aboard “Legacy” out of Mission Bay had very pleasant birding and pleasant sea conditions. The highlights included a Manx Shearwater some 5.8 miles off Point Loma and an Ancient Murrelet about 9 miles out. Almost all the expected and several uncommon winter species were also seen. Cassin’s Auklets were especially plentiful. Totals for species seen once offshore–more than a mile out–are as follows:
