san elijo rarities 6-12-23

12:22 pm

Nothing earth-shattering, but still fun for North County & this time of year.  This morning (6-12-23) at San Elijo Lagoon along the channel shore off Manchester Ave & Ocean Cove was an adult yellow-crowned night-heron, a male northern pintail, and a male American wigeon, the latter two in rather rough plumage (as to be expected if still present this time of year).  On the shore to the NE of Santa Inez, was a pair of Canada geese with at least two chunky fuzzy goslings.  To the east of Mira Costa College & the Greek Church was a pair of harriers with at least one young fledgling following.
