San Elijo Lagoon (flooded) – Nelson’s Sparrow

9:31 am

The lagoon mouth is blocked to the ocean. The water level is extremely high and the birds have very few places to hide. Good opportunity to see lots of Ridgway’s Rails and Soras out in the open, as well as plenty of ducks.

A Nelson’s Sparrow near the benches at end of the spit off N Rios is a known location. It perched briefly on a twig in the mound just before the benches.

Good birding!
