San Diego County Database 2002-2023 Update

5:37 am

I have updated the “San Diego County Avian Records
2002-2023” database through the end of 2023. As before, it can be found on
the “Avian Resources” page of the Buena Vista Audubon Society website:
Easy to download. And as before, it is in WORD format, so it is
searchable. Many thanks to Jane Mygatt and Buena Vista Audubon for hosting this document.

The database includes as many of the bird records “of
interest” that I have gleaned for San Diego County covering the period beginning with the 2002 cut-off for the San Diego County Bird Atlas
by Phil Unitt. It also includes a small number of
records from prior to 2002 that were unknown
to Phil or which now have modified date-spans. The database includes
regional and local rarities, unseasonal records, high counts, breeding
records of note, and some important population trends and CBC data. All
are organized via four geographic subdivisions (coast, inland,
mountains, desert) and by season (migration, winter, summer/breeding).

As always, I am interested in receiving information from observers that:

–corrects dates, locations, and number of individuals;
–adds missing records of note, such as “improving” on the early/late dates and high counts listed here;
–corrects finder credit;
–corrects typos and other
grammatical errors and inconsistencies, including everything from simple
comma or period errors and mis-spelled words to perhaps a record mis-placed
in the wrong region or season or not placed in proper chronological
order. Whatever the error, no correction is too minor!
