Red-whiskered Bulbul in Valley Center

9:18 pm

Dear friends,

AnnaRose Back, a volunteer in my department at the San Diego Natural History
Museum and ranger with San Diego County Parks, reported to me seeing a
copulating pair of Red-whiskered Bulbuls in Valley Center at about 33.2305°
N, 117.0039° W about 23 June. The site is along a county-maintained trail
between Vesper Rd. and Valley Center Rd. According to AnnaRose, the best
access is from Vesper Road (no good parking along Valley Center Rd.) at
32.2355° N, 117.0030° W, then by walking south along the trail. I see one
photo from Leucadia taken in 2012 at, and Dan Cooper
told me of a photo taken at Escondido posted to a Facebook group in March
2021. Does anyone else know of evidence of the Red-whiskered Bulbul
establishing itself in San Diego County?

Good birding,
