Red Phalaropes, Townsend’s Solitaire

Red Phalaropes, Townsend’s Solitaire

By {authorlink} – 11:40 am

Saturday morning, 6 Red Phalaropes continue at the salt works, from the 41 reported there, post-storms, on the 5th. Today they were in the northwesternmost pond. The Townsend’s Solitaire in Nestor/Palm City since mid-Dec continues, in the fruiting trees along the beginning of Cerrissa Court. Thus, there are currently three long-staying solitaires in residence along the coast: this bird, residential Point Loma, and University City. Also today, at Sunnyslope Park and Montgomery Waller Park were a Bullock’s Oriole and 2 Western Tanagers.
Be aware that the rain has raised the water level in the stint pond, so there is currently no edge to “stint island,” making it unlikely the stint will frequent there until the water level drops a bit.
