Red-necked Grebe still at Shelter Island April 13

Keith and I found the Red-necked Grebe at
7:40AM toward the southwest end of Shelter Island (April 13) and
followed it as it dove repeatedly and swam underwater toward and
past the pier.  After it passed the pier, it came within about
40' of the shore.

We also saw two Eared Grebes near the pier,
one still in winter plumage and one with the golden ear tufts of
breeding plumage.
