Red-footed Booby, MacGillivray’s Warbler

Red-footed Booby, MacGillivray’s Warbler

By – 10:17 am
Tuesday morning, the 14th, just as the more serious rain started, a close-in Red-footed Booby was at La Jolla. A dark, young bird with not much in the way of obvious facial-skin color and the flesh color of the bill is fairly dull. There also have been sightings of Red-footeds there on 11 Oct, 21 Nov, and 7 Dec, and a comparison of plumages/bill color might shed some light on determining how many different birds are involved. But the last three sightings might involve the same individual which could be roosting somewhere nearby. On the 13th, the casual-in-winter MacGillivray’s Warbler first seen by G. Hazard on the 9th continued in Imperial Beach, bordering Veteran’s Park. A new, adult male Vermilion Flycatcher is behind the Mendoza Elementary School on the Nestor/Palm City border; a new, female-type Summer Tanager is at Leon Avenue/Berry Park; and the Ross’s Goose continues in Imperial Beach/s. end SD Bay.–Paul Lehman, San Diego
