Rec Centers = Community Parks; ibis numbers

6:46 pm

First off, for about the last two weeks there seem to be more than the usual number of W-f Ibis at many areas on the coastal slope. A good number of small and mid-sized flocks, sitting and flying over, and interestingly comprised by a very large percent of young birds of the year.
The following may seem like picking nits, but a few locations over the years have been eBirded and otherwise referred to as “XXX Rec Center”–currently recent finds of Painted Bunting and Black-and-white Warbler at the “Carmel Valley Rec Center.” But “rec enters” actually refer solely to a building used for that purpose in a larger park, often of the same name, and often specifically named a Community Park. So, in this particular case, the warbler and bunting are in Carmel Valley Community Park. The wintering Dusky-capped Flycatcher a couple years back was in North Clairemont Community Park, not at the North Clairemont Rec Center playing basketball. When submitting eBird records etc., please try to keep this in mind for consistency of location names. We continue now with our regularly scheduled program….
