Re: tamarisks and the B&B

Along the same lines, the National Parks Service removed shrubby tamarisks from around Lake Tuendae at the California Desert Studies Center (aka Zzyzx) a couple years ago. While these were of the invasive variety (T. ramosissima, chinensis, etc), they weren’t spreading at this salt-encrusted inhospitable site, and provided valuable shade, cover, and food for migrants lured by the water and palm fruits. Senselessly removing bird habitat without initiating any plans for native alternatives isn’t remotely an ‘improvement’ and shows a lack of flexibility and appreciation of local conditions. I  think the damage at this site has similarly been significant.
