Re: Chestnut-collared longspur
I did not get the longspur, but this evening- after 7 straight trips to Robb Field- I finally got some wonderful looks at the buff breasted sandpiper, in the field where the longspur was supposed to be. When I first arrived, about 4:30, some people were running their dogs in that ball field, so I headed west to see what was in the river area…not much. I turned back and to my delight, the dog people had left and there was a guy with a camera in the ball field. Oh my fellow birders, my heart always leaps at men and women with big giant cameras on tripods. They mean business. I went into the field and asked if he (Jim) had seen the longspur – NO- and the sandpiper ? “Oh, it’s right here.” And it was, and I had wonderful looks at it. A lifer for me, and I have been birding for more than 50 years.
Can you think of a better way to spend your time in our amazing San Diego?
