Blackburnian Warblers are mostly seen in SD as fall migrants. April observations are very rare in SD and California more generally. It is accepted that April observations are most likely overwintering individuals, as spring migrants are exceptional and come much later in the season. This bird was not observed over the winter. While Poinsettia Park not a very common hotspot, it is regularly birded. So the possibilities are 1) it was undetected at the park over the winter , 2) it recently moved to park from nearby wintering location, and 3) it is a very early spring migrant. Regardless of how it arrived, it is an interesting observation. Also, if one looks at Ebird frequency of BLBW in California there is an early spring mini peak the week of 4/8 at 0.03%.Pictures in Ebird report.https://ebird.org/checklist/S106873435The gps coordinates where the bird was observed is 33.1145818, -117.3068862Tito GonzalezCarlsbad, CA
