Prothonotary Warbler La Costa
8:40 am
Good morning,
Last night I found a prothonotary warbler in south Carlsbad/La Costa area, and it continues this morning (9/23). It’s on a residential road so the bird is frequently in people’s backyards, but there’s only housing on one side of the street so still lots of non-yard trees for it to hang out in.
There are a lot of Western and American sycamores around that the warblers like, so there are also a lot of Townsend’s and orange crowns right now, but the prothonotary has a noticeably different chip noise that occasionally sounds, and that’s how I’ve tracked it down.
Here’s the coordinates for the rough area: (33.0787723, -117.2488541)
