Point La Jolla seawatch July 5
An semi-slow morning at La Jolla. I was there from before 6:30 until 9:00 with three others. Over 1,000 Black-vented Shearwaters milling/rafting about 3/4 mile offshore but only about 20 Black Storm-petrels. Two Common Murres ( one at 7:10 and one at 7:55) flew south outside the kelp beds, both adults in breeding plumage, perhaps all these Murres seen in Southern California means that breeding failures are widespread this year. No other alcids, tubenoses, or boobies seen.
No dolphins seen at all this morning.
