Pigeon Guillemots in Imperial Beach

Jan Nordenberg and I went to the beach at the end of Seacoast Dr. in Imperial Beach this morning after looking unsuccessfully for the Lesser Yellowlegs in TRV. To our surprise, we found one Pigeon Guillemot on the water past the surf and latter spotted a second one. We were standing just south of the beach entry. There were a couple of Pelagic Cormorants that managed to confuse me but the cormorants have a small white patch on their flanks, the Pigeon Guillemots had a distinct, large white patch on their wings. The cormorants have a different profile in the water too with their long necks and skinny long bills.

The water/wind was calm at 10:30 am when we first arrived. It became windy making the birds harder to spot. They were too far out for photos although Nancy Christiansen may have gotten a photo.
