Painted Bunting FRNC 7 September
A hatch year Painted Bunting was along the east fence line in the SE corner eating grass seeds. A Cooper’s Hawk spooked it and it flew north. A check of emergent grass along the fence lines (e.g., west of the office in the NW corner) may result in its rediscovery.
Nice push of Western Kingbirds and the most numerous bird is Pacific-slope Flycatcher, with scattered Wilson’s Warblers, Warbling Vireos, and at least one each MacGillivray’s Warbler and Hermit Warbler.
No sign of the Blue-headed/Cassin’s Vireo last night or this morning.
