Painted Bunting at Community Gardens TRV
This morning, 8-17-18, I found an adult male and an apparent juvenile Painted Bunting at the TRV community gardens at about 7:40. I saw the bright male first in space 67 ( near the south end of the gardens) and then it flew over to space 97 and immediate vicinity, where it stayed until I lost it. The vegetation it seemed to prefer were grape vines and vine-like squash. As I watched it another bunting appeared which I identified as a juvenile Painted Bunting. It had just a tiny amount of green on the neck and at the base of the tail, other than that it was all gray. The idea struck me that it might be a Varied Bunting, but that would be too good to be true.
