Nuttall's x Downy hyrbid woodpecker
Hi everyone,
This morning at the Dairy Mart south pond, I heard the whinny call of a Downy
Woodpecker and followed it to what appeared to be a Nuttall's. But on a closer
look, both the back pattern and the face pattern showed features of both.
I just entered a detailed description and six photos into ebird:
I see a drawing in Sibley, and an article in WFO by Phil Unitt about an observation
in 1984. I can't figure out how to search ebird for hybrids to see if there are more
recent records.
Thoughts welcome!
