Northern Parula, W-w Dove

Northern Parula, W-w Dove
By – 2:11 pm
On Saturday morning, 6 Nov, there was a Northern Parula along the north side of Kearny Mesa Community Park, which, believe it or not, is on Kearny Mesa, just south of SD Mesa College. I had never birded here before, but it was quite birdy–until I was rudely interrupted by the report of the Eastern Towhee in Jacumba! So much for my finishing checking this park today! The Parula was in slightly lerpy eucs near some Yellow-rumpeds. But there are also plenty of fruit-filled fig trees and other appealing places to hide.On Friday, 5 Nov, there was a White-winged Dove in the TRV community gardens on Hollister Avenue. After a banner/record season for this species along the coast in Aug and the first half of Sep, there have been precious few coastal birds since.–Paul Lehman, San Diego
