North Island Brown Thrasher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Orchard Oriole

North Island Brown Thrasher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Orchard Oriole
By – 12:35 pm
Saturday morning I was able to gain access to Naval Air Station North Island via a military connection and was happy to find a Brown Thrasher, a young male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and a female Orchard Oriole which may well be a returning bird, as well as seven Bullocks Orioles and Yellow and Wilson’s warblers and continuing Vermilion flycatcher. The Orioles and Grosbeak at one point would have been visible from the pocket park area at Coronado and 8th. One needs an active or retired military person with valid ID to get you on North Island, so if you can arrange such and want to look for the Thrasher, contact me privately and I will give directions. But I do not have any further connection to go there, so please don’t ask me to try to arrange it, because I have no pull!In other news today, and American Redstart continues in Coronado, and visiting birders Curtis Marantz and Brian Daniels report the continuing White-headed woodpecker on Palomar Mountain.Paul Lehman, San DiegoSent from the all new AOL app for Android
