By – 11:47 am
Today Friday as i live nearby I went down to see how the long tailed duck was doing and she seemed fine hanging out with the 13 surf scoters  shes been with now for some weeks.  Ususal area  Ponto Beach  200 yards off shore and today almost straight out from the rock jetties.   The Big feeding frenzy with thousands  of black vented shearwaters thats been going on for about 6 weeks was present,    The flock drifts up and down the coast, Pete G. had the frenzy off  camp pendleton few days back. I saw it off Solana Beach a month ago.  Today at 730 it was just off shore of the Carlsbad Campground and over the course of a couple hours had driffed south past ponto maybe all the way to Beacons beach which is the west end of Leucadia blvd. The birds are following a bait ball.  As i mentioned a week or so ago this is very unusual here  as Ive never seen it  and I use to surf 20 years here and frequented the beach most days at least for a surf checksteve bradLeucadia/Mammoth lakes
