New Vermilion, old Neotropics, Western migrants

8:59 am

At Robb Field this morning, Thursday, there was a male Vermilion Flycatcher quickly moving all over the place near the tennis courts. A new coastal bird. And both of the Neotropic Cormorants continued with Double cresteds in the river channel, one primarily brownish and one primarily blackish, as have been present for quite some time now.

As a number of people have commented, the number of Western migrants being seen lately is pretty low, even when considering its the very tail end of migration. Today on Point Loma I managed only four individual western migrants: 2 pewees, a Wilson’s warbler, and a Western tanager.
