N. Rough-winged Swallow big flock

A minor curiosity at the MIssion Trails Dam early this morning was an unusually

large group of 55 Northern Rough-winged Swallows, mostly perched in a single
tree and foraging over the dam. There were just a few Tree Swallows mixed in. Later,
most of the flock was foraging together over the grasslands.
According to Birds of the World (Cornell), NRWS's sometimes nests in groups of
up to 25 pairs.
Just out of curiosity I looked at some local hotspots on eBird. I see recently up to 30
being seen at Bird & Butterfly, but otherwise counts above 20 are unusual, at least in
June/July. (I see some reports of hundreds at Lake Murray in mid-March.)
Photos of most of the flock in the eBird report.
Also, a photo of Bell's Vireo that just fed a cowbird chick.
