Mountain Bluebirds in Lake Hodges dry lake bed

While covering the Bernardo Bay Trail for the RSF CBC this morning, Ter
Hurst spotted 3 Mountain Bluebirds down in the dry lake bed. They moved
around quite a bit. Very easy to miss, as there is some distance between
the trail and where they were and they were often on the ground. Looked
like two males and one very dull female. When starting from the
trailhead south of the pedestrian bridge, we saw them a little while
after going around the left hand bend in the trail. It’s possible there
could have been more than 3, but that was all we saw at one time.
