Mount Soledad Gray Flycatcher, 3 Hammond’s, Purple Finch

Mount Soledad Gray Flycatcher, 3 Hammond’s, Purple Finch

By – 10:44 am
First, some recent miscellanea include continuing Black-and-white Warbler in Serra Mesa through 4 April, continuing Hepatic Tanager in Tierrasanta through 5 April, confirmed nesting pair of Vermilion Flycatchers on Admiral Baker Golf Course near the SD Mission on 4 April. This morning’s (Thursday) easterly flow encouraged three of us (Jay Desgrosellier, Aneesh Baburaj, myself) to check on the morning flight at Mount Soledad from 6:30-9:00 AM. Although we were hoping for larger numbers, given the weather, a few items of northbound interest were seen, headlined by a Gray Flycatcher, 3 Hammond’s, and a Purple Finch–the latter occurring only in fairly small numbers this winter in the lowlands (a far cry from the previous winter’s invasion) and almost entirely all in North County, with no sightings in lowland South County since the beginning of December.
