miscellaneous continuing and minor new; tipu news

On Sunday the 11th, continuing birds include:

1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper still at the sod

1 summering Surfbird still at salt works, which is unusual to still be using that habitat in October

3+ Bank Swallows still in earlyish morning around se. corner S San Diego Bay

20 Yellow-headed Blackbirds still in vic. Sunset X Hollister in TRV

New birds of minor interest on 11 Oct include good counts of 400 Red Knots at salt works and 350 Barn Swallows at S San Diego Bay/TRV, 200 White-throated Swifts over TRV, a getting-late N. Rough-winged Swallow at Dairy Mart, a typical departure-date Western Wood-Pewee in Lincoln Park, 2 arrival Ring-necked Ducks at Dairy Mart, and a Nashville Warbler at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Up until very recently, the local tipu trees have been largely very slow for birds this fall, but there appears to be some improvement at a number of tipu sites during the past few days, so perhaps time to visit your local favorite patches again.
