miscellanea Oct 17 & 18
On October 17, a rather late Olive-sided Flycatcher was along Dupont Street in residential Point Loma. At San Dieguito Lagoon in Del Mar, a returning hybrid Eurasian X American Wigeon is back for its third or fourth winter, and there was a getting-late Northern Rough-winged Swallow.
On October 18, there were still LOTS of shorebirds at high tide in the saltworks pond right off the end of 13th Street in Imperial Beach, including a good count of 170 Red Knots. At the Sunset ball fields in the TRV, there were THREE Vermilion Flycatchers–the continuing, well-known adult male, the continuing female that is just pale yellow on the belly, and also an immature male -type bird with a much pinkier-orangey wash to the belly. Also a single Lawrence's Goldfinch.
