miscellanea and a couple high counts

miscellanea and a couple high counts

On Feb 6th, the Pine Warbler and one Hermit Warbler continue in Friendship Park and the Tennessee Warbler continues at Montgomery Waller Park (fide R. Patton), while my own low-hanging fruit was only Bullock’s Oriole and Western Tanager along Leon Avenue and Black-thr Gray Warbler in UTC. But my actual highlights today were high counts of 72 Black-cr. Night-Herons at the Dairy Mart middle pond and a large mixed-flock of sparrows in San Ysidro that contained a couple Golden-crowneds and 22 Song Sparrows. That’s probably the largest number of Songs I’ve ever seen locally at one small place at one time, given that that species typically behaves as if anything over two birds is “a crowd” to be actively discouraged. (Also a few Burrowing Parrots and Monk Parakeets in San Ysidro.)–Paul Lehman, San Diego
