misc. continuing rarities, Jacumba stuff

Miscellaneous continuing rarities on 14 Apr include the Little Stint in the latter AM at the salt works and the minima Cackling Goose and duo of separate American Redstarts in Coronado. A reasonable count of 300 Red Knots at the salt works included many in breeding plumage. On 16 Apr, the isolated group of 4 Acorn Woodpeckers that have been along the Junipero Serra Trail (road) at Mission Trails for a couple (?) years continue. And on 17 Apr, a visit to Jacumba produced 3 continuing Harris’s Hawks, as usual along the north edge of town only very early in the morning, as well as the usual east-edge-of-range two pairs of Cassin’s Kingbirds and the other usual Jacumba “specialties” such as Scott’s Oriole, numbers of Lawrence’s Goldfinches, but only 5 Tricolored Blackbirds at a feeder in town (not nesting). A Green Heron building a nest would constitute a very unusual nesting record for that part of the county. A reasonable selection of migrants. A quick stop along Kitchen Creek Road produced Gray Vireo, Scott’s Oriole, and several Black-chinned Sparrows–as usual–plus an Olive-sided Flycatcher perched on top of a yucca stalk.–Paul Lehman, San Diego
