First off, one new bird: yet another Nashville Warbler, this one in the multi-blocks of tipu heaven along Fern Street in South Park on 31 Jan. Plenty of warblers in those trees, including a healthy 7 Townsend’s.Continuing rarities on 1 Feb include the Cassin’s Vireo and Northern Parula in Carmel Valley Comm. Park (note that sometimes both drop out of view into the lower tipus at the south edge of the park that might be better viewed from the apartments), Black-and-white Warbler in Stonecrest, the Magnolia Warbler in the tipus near the Tot Lot at San Dieguito County Park, and the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher near the square pond bordering the Surf playing fields in Fairbanks Ranch/Del Mar (which, as before, Cassin’s Kingbirds started coming out of the roost in the eucalyptus grove across Via de la Valle at around 6:45, one by one to the pond area, and the Scissor-tailed appeared at 6:57). Also, no surprise, the minima Cackling Goose continues today in Coronado (fide E. Copper) and the Tierrasanta Painted Redstart continued at 3993 Catamarca (fide R. T. Patton).–Paul Lehman, San Diego
