Mexican Duck x Mallard at Lower Otay Lake, 12/29

A male hybrid Mexican Duck x Mallard was present with the Mallard flock at Lower Otay Lake this evening (Saturday, 12/29) just north of the boat launch. The bird was mated with/guarding a typical female (Northern) Mallard, and other than some barely discernible green iridescence on the crown and partial tail curls, the bird appeared like a Mexican Duck.
