Little Stint, 2 Am. Redstarts

Little Stint, 2 Am. Redstarts
By – 11:47 am
For those still trying for the Little Stint this month before it departs, be aware that it continues as of today, Saturday, on “Stint Island” off the end of 10th Street and that it has attained a little bit of alternate plumage.Specifically, the entire upperparts now have a bunch of broad blackish centers to many feathers with dull paler fringes, so that the upperparts appear rather blotchy and messily mottled–a pattern uniquely different from the Western Sandpipers, whatever plumage they are in. There is a hint of orangey-rust to the upper face, but it is difficult to see. The bird could depart tomorrow, or it could remain until the end of the month. Both of the wintering American Redstarts continued today in Coronado–one on private property and one at Glorietta Bay Park. Also a Hammond’s Flycatcher.–Paul Lehman, San Diego
