La Jolla Seawatch: Ancient Murrelet, Long-tailed Duck, Black scooter
A Friday morning seawatch from dawn until 10:00 a.m. in generally light winds by 5 birders turned up a good flight of southbound loons and scoters. Highlights included a southbound Ancient Murrelet, with photos and first spotted by Paul M., a southbound Long tailed Duck in a flock of scoters, with photos and first spotted by Nancy C., and one female type southbound Black Scoter. A pretty good count of 10 southbound Common Murres. A reasonable total of nine Black Oystercatchers, but no other sorts of oystercatchers.
