la jolla seawatch 2-21-24

8:35 am

Post-storm seawatch from La Jolla this morning 7-7:45 proved rather underwhelming, with most activity waaaaay out on the horizon (pelicans, gulls, terns) – only able to pick out less than a dozen black-vented shearwaters…
However, highlights were a single Cassin’s auklet powering by north to south not too far offshore, a very cooperative common murre only 100-200 yds offshore (north of Pt La Jola in a line between Stan’s bench & the end of Scripps pier), and an adult parasitic jaeger chasing royal terns at times close to shore.  Also had 2 black oystercatchers on the bluff of Goldfish Pt, later calling & flying along the shoreline of Pt La Jolla heading south, then a few minutes later one returned; the other was visible on the rocks just south of Childrens Pool as I left.
