Jacumba: Lark Bunting, Townsend’s Solitaire, Yellow-headed Blackbird

Jacumba: Lark Bunting, Townsend’s Solitaire, Yellow-headed Blackbird

By {authorlink} – 9:31 am

Saturday morning at Jacumba, we had a male mostly alternate plumage Lark Bunting fly by us and land along the south side of town immediately to the south of the Jacumba Community Park and only a little short of the border fence. Coordinates were 32.6150, -116.1868. We could not refind the bird and we don’t know where it went, and the habitat there is perfect for Lark Bunting but it’s perfect this spring  everywhere surrounding Jacumba! Scattered desert scrub with nice grasses and flowers growing amongst them. Just to the west of there, we had a Townsend’s Solitaire hanging out in the pyracantha bush with several waxwings on “Snob Hill.” And earlier in the morning we had a female Yellow-headed Blackbird fly over us heading east and went way out into the abandoned ag fields where a slug of Tricolored Blackbirds also were going to feed and which are nesting (200) at the pond at the west edge of town. Three Harris’s Hawks continue.
