Inca Dove in Borrego Springs

Inca Dove in Borrego Springs
By {authorlink} – 10:25 am

Just before 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning I found an Inca Dove in the De Anza Club property which is toward the northwest corner of Borrego Springs. Walking on the paved roads is fine but under no circumstances go out on the fairways. The bird is calling along Yaqui Road between De Anza Drive and where Yaqui t’s and becomes Montezuma and Yaqui. It’s spent some time next to #1605 Yaqui Road. If it hadn’t called a couple times as I walked by I never would have found it, as it is spending most of its time just sitting in various trees totally quiet. I played a brief snippet of tape after I had heard it just so I could see it and it immediately flew in and started calling quite a bit. So I quickly stopped. And this is only going to work so many times so this bird could be tough to find if it’s not calling. But it was periodically giving the standard “no hope” call.

At the Roadrunner Club earlier in the morning I had three White-throated Sparrows and nine Scaly-breasted Munias.
