Hooded Warbler in Point Loma
A few birds flew from behind me onto the mess of vegetation between the first two houses on Pio Pico (just west of Silvergate) at about 8:30 this morning. One was a Hooded Warbler. It stopped very briefly on the top, and I had a side view: bright yellow face; black eye; black arc along the top of the face, then around the back of the yellow, then curling forward under the yellow. Otherwise plain. It flew south below the treetop, and I lost sight of it. I searched for a while, but the block between Pio Pico and Rosecroft is large and has a lot of thick vegetation not visible from the streets. I could not relocate it. Since the black was quite distinct, I think it was a male. I believe the earliest fall sighting was September 5.
