Green-tailed towhee at Dairy Mart Ponds
I had a green-tailed towhee down at the Dairy Mart Ponds this morning – in a ways from the more southerly parking lot, on the north side of the area that is often a pond on the south when there are rains. Heard it call first – didn’t recognize the call as I’ve never heard one before, but it popped up out of the brush for a good look at it’s rufous top of the head and greenish back, and the nice markings on the face.
And I was surprised here in North Park when I woke at 5:55 for birding to hear 2 great-horned owls hooting at each other out in the dark. Haven’t heard that in a long while.
