Program: Visible Migration: The Birds of the Sky, by Gautam Apte. Gautam Apte has been birding since a young age, growing up near Cleveland, Ohio and spending formative time watching migrating birds throughout his years there. While a student at the Ohio State University, he remained active as a birder and took advantage of opportunities to travel and study birds and migration further afield, while still frequently conducting local migration watches along Lake Erie and elsewhere in Ohio. For the past 5 years, he has worked as a field biologist on a number of ecological and ornithological studies across the United States. Currently he is working his second consecutive season as the songbird morning flight counter at the Cape May Bird Observatory in New Jersey. Gautam has a special interest in bird migration and enjoys the study of bird vagrancy. He serves as a volunteer regional reviewer for eBird, and as a voting member on both the Ohio Bird Records Committee and the American Birding Association’s Recording Standards and Ethics Committee.
